Privacy policy
This policy explains what personal information I collect through this website and when you contact me, how I use it and the choices you have.

Who I am
I’m Simon Galfe, a self-employed pianist based in Basingstoke, Hampshire. I’m responsible for any personal information collected through simongalfe.co.uk. If you have a question about this policy or your information, please get in touch through my contact page.
What I collect
Enquiries and bookings
When you use the booking or general enquiry form on my contact page, I receive the details you enter:
- your name, email address and phone number
- details of your event, such as its type, location, date, start time and length
- your choice of piano and anything you write in your message
- how you heard about me
The forms send these details to me by email. They are not stored on the website itself.
If you contact me directly by email, phone, WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger, I receive whatever you send that way. If you book me, I also keep the details needed for your contract, deposit and invoice.
Visiting the website
Like most websites, this one records technical information about each visit, such as your IP address, browser and the pages you view. This keeps the site secure, stops spam and shows me how the site is used. The services involved are listed below.
How I use your information
- to reply to your enquiry and check my availability
- to prepare your quote, contract and invoice if you book
- to plan your performance, including song requests and arrangements with your venue
- to keep the website secure and free of spam
I use your details to deal with your enquiry and carry out your booking, to keep the tax and accounting records I’m required to keep, and, where it’s in my legitimate interests, to protect the website and understand how it’s used. I don’t send marketing emails, and I never sell your details or pass them to anyone for their own marketing.
Services I use
- Website and email hosting. My website and email are run by the same hosting provider, on servers in the European Economic Area.
- Google reCAPTCHA protects the forms from spam. It runs on every page and sends information about your device and how you use the page to Google.
- Google Analytics tells me how many people visit and which pages they view. It uses cookies and doesn’t give me your name or contact details.
- Google Fonts supplies the typefaces, so your browser connects to Google to load them.
- Google Maps shows my coverage area on the rates page.
- YouTube hosts the videos on the home and videos pages. YouTube may set cookies and collect information when a video loads or plays, as if you were visiting YouTube directly.
- Security software on the website records IP addresses and details of requests so that it can block attacks.
Google’s use of information is covered by the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. Some of these providers may process information outside the UK, with the safeguards UK data protection law requires.
Links to other websites
This website links to other sites, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Encore, Poptop and the Musicians’ Union. Once you follow a link, that site’s own privacy policy applies.
Cookies
- Google Analytics sets cookies named
_gaand_ga_5MFDN9BJDKto count visits. They last up to two years.
- Google reCAPTCHA sets a cookie needed for spam protection.
- YouTube may set cookies when a video loads or plays.
- WordPress sets login cookies for the site’s administrators only.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can stop Google Analytics recording your visits with Google’s opt-out browser add-on.
How long I keep your information
- Enquiries that don’t lead to a booking: up to 12 months, then deleted.
- Bookings: contracts and invoices for as long as I need them for tax and accounting, normally six years.
- Website security logs: a short period, then deleted automatically.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of the information I hold about you, and ask me to correct it, delete it, limit how I use it or stop using it. To make a request, contact me. If you’re unhappy with how I’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Changes to this policy
If anything changes, I’ll update this page and the date at the top.
